CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Veterans Day 11-11-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
The United States first began recognizing its veterans with the origination of Armistice Day on November 11, 1918 in acknowledgement to commemorate the end of World War I. In 1954, Armistice Day was turned into Veterans Day by Congressional legislation signed by President Eisenhower honoring all who served the nation in wars or conflicts.
Today, there are nearly 25 million veterans of which 9.5 are 65 years and older.
California is one of six states that have over a million or more veterans. Specifically, California has the most with 2.3 million followed by Florida with 1.8 million, Texas with 1.7 million, New York with 1.2 million, Pennsylvania with 1.1 million and Ohio with 1.1 million.
Thank you, to all who have served this nation in the effort to preserve our freedoms.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
