CALIFORNIA BUSINESS MINUTE Her Economy 12-03-08
Hi, I am Tim Johnson and welcome to the California Business Minute.
According to a poll of 3000 women done by HerOrbit.com, a social network focused on motivating women, 71 percent of women entrepreneurs said their businesses are contributing a significant amount, which is more than half, to their families income.
Its a good time to get in the market and create a competitive advantage while other people might not because of the increased risk, said Pat Fong Kushida, director of the Sacramento Asian Chamber of Commerce. Supporting women entrepreneurship is helping create jobs and providing momentum for social and economic development.
The numbers are staggering. According to the IRS, women comprise 39 percent of the top wealth holders in the U.S., adding up to some 2.5 million women with combined assets of $4.2 trillion dollars.
Women ages 25-34 are now also recognized as the fuel this country needs for a new wave of home buying, head and shoulders beyond their male counterparts. So despite the numerous bankruptcies, foreclosures, panicked markets, and rising unemployment, women are standing fast and firm. Is this another Great Depression? Not yet. Not if mom can help it.
I am Tim Johnson and this has been the California Business Minute.
